"Inspiration will bring us higher than resources ever will"

Something I've been working on for the past few weeks. I think what I said above pretty much sums up what this drawing is about and what inspired me to make it. Also the fact that I love seagulls, and one of my favorite books, Jonathan Livingstone Seagull have been helpful as well. The storyline of the book made the perfect scene (and sense) for what I tried to depict with this drawing.

- graphite pencils (regular and mechanical) on Canson smooth paper
- some references for the details
- 42 x 30 cm (A3)
- about 25 hours

Thanks for watching. Hope you like it.

edit: you guys are quick! and so kind too. Thank you very much for the comments and the favs :)

I couldn't dream of a better illustration for that lovely book  Hopefully we'll see you do a portrait of Donald Shimoda too some time! 'Illusions' is my all-time favourite, it's positively life-changing.

I'll draw a sketch of thee,
What kind of pencil shall I use?
2B or not 2B?

*Faints* And you were already talented when I started watching you sometime in April 2005. You keep producing stunning works, Henrik!

Especially the lower seagull of the two is amazing...like someone else said before: it looks like it's coming right off the page. Well done.

Wow, I've just checked your website for some new WIP's of this beautiful drawing and here it is, finished, waiting in my +watch list. :)
This final idea the lower seagull is truly unexpected. And of course, it has to be the main "spice" of this drawing, perfectly representing the concept. I love the idea behind this picture and the technique is flawless, of course. You're a true inspiration!
